Written in Mexico, Saskatchewan, Quebec, and Ontario between 1980-1981, this dive into the rich and prolific years that wouldproduce the crucial questions which Antonio D’Alfonso has been trying ever since: identity, individuality, culture, love. The foundation for a lifetime, he evokes the names of the men and women who are dear to him in the fields of cinema, literature, music, and psychoanalysis.”

“‘A young man of twenty-seven wrote this notebook. The ninth journal of many, he describes events that unfolded between Montreal, 23 June 1980 and 31 December 1981. I often find myself reverting back to my diaries, simply because the mind fails to recall whatever it was that happened. 1980-1981 were pivotal years for me. The endings, the beginnings, and the turning points are disclosed candidly. It does not matter how famous the person writing a diary is, the mixture of truth and lie, the broken syntax, the prose poetry that follows the logic of the essay vibrate in a unique manner that fiction and poetry lack.”
