The
Redemption of Anna Dupree
JIM CHRISTY
Jim Christys colourful new novel is about
a aging actress who finds redemption and renewal through the friendship
of a young man, fresh out of university. Colin works in Valley
View, a care home for the elderly. It is there he meets the surprising
Anna Dupree. In her seventies, she has a wicked tongue, makes
many references to sex and claims to have been in the movies.
As Colin gets to know her, he becomes intrigued by her past and
discovers there is truth in her stories. When Colin is instructed
to take a medical leave on account of stomach ulcers, Anna persuades
him to help her escape from the prison of the retirement home.
They embark on a road trip to Mexico, and while the elderly Anna
comes back to life Colin finds himself opening up in unexpected
ways. On one drunken evening after they arrive in Mexico, the
feisty Anna seduces staid Colin and both are surprised by the
outcome.
